"Da Bride's a Bonnie Ting", also known as "The Bride is a Bonny Thing" is a Shetland<br> slow air in 6/8 time and G Major (Shuldham-Shaw) or A Major (Anderson & Swing). It is<br> played in standard or AEae fiddle tunings.<br> Pat Shuldham-Shaw says this tune is another example of a Bride's March (i.e. a<br> processional tune from the Kirk after the wedding nuptials).<br> The tune may be a derivative of the Scottish "The Bride's a Bonnie Thing" printed in<br> the 1atter 18th century by the Thompsons in London and Oswald, Bremner and the<br> Gows in Edinburgh. The tunes are different but have some similarities in the<br> second strain.<br> The mandolin tablature is set in standard tuning but the violin tablature is set in<br> AEae tuning.<br> It was printed in Anderson & Swing's Haand Me Doon da Fiddle (1979) and<br> Pat Shuldham-Shaw's "Folk Music and Dance in Shetland" in the Journal of<br> the English Folk Dance and Song Society, vol. 5, no. 2 (1947).<br> It was recorded by Kathryn Tickell on Strange but True (2006),<br> Tom Anderson and Aly Bain on The Silver Bow (1993) and<br> The Chieftains on Chieftains #1 (1964).<br>
